Upgrade Windows and Linux compute-only nodes

Prerequisites

Ensure that there are no workloads running on the compute-only node.

Steps

  1. For Windows:
    1. Download the PowerFlex_x.x.x.x_xxx_Complete_Software.zip bundle from Dell Support.
    2. Copy the following files to the compute-only nodes \Temp directory:
      • Windows software: PowerFlex_X.X.X.X_XXX_Complete_Software\PowerFlex_X.X.X.X_XXX_Complete_Windows_SW\PowerFlex_X.X.X.X_XXX_Complete_Windows_SW\PowerFlex_X.X.X.X_XXX_Windows\
      • SDC: EMC-ScaleIO-sdc-X.X-XXX.XXX.msi
      • LIA: EMC-ScaleIO-lia-X.X-XXX.XXX.msi
    3. Log in to the compute-only node as the administrator.
    4. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features to check the SDC and LIA version. Change the directory to C:\Temp.
    5. Click EMC-ScaleIO-lia-X.X-XXX.XXX.msi, check I accept the terms in the License Agreement and click Install > Finish.
    6. Click EMC-ScaleIO-sdc-X.X-XXX.XXX.msi, check I accept the terms in the License Agreement and click Install > Finish. Click Yes to reboot.
    7. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features to check the SDC and LIA version.
    8. To verify that the SDC is connected in the PowerFlex presentation server GUI, click Configuration > SDCs.
  2. For Linux:
    1. Download and unzip the Flex_Intelligent_Catalog_x_x_x_rx.zip file to the jump server. This is a large file.
    2. Change Directory into the extracted Intelligent Catalog
    3. Change the directory into OS, and unzip VxFlex_OS_x.x.x.x_xxx_RHEL_OEL7.zip and change the directory to vxfm/vxflexox_x.x.x.
    4. Copy the following files to the compute-only nodes /tmp directory using SCP:
      • SDC: EMC-ScaleIO-sdc-X.X-X.XXX.el7.x86_64.rpm
      • LIA: EMC-ScaleIO-lia-X.X-X.XXX.el7.x86_64.rpm
    5. Log in to the compute-only node as root.
    6. Change the directory to /tmp.
    7. Type rpm -qa | grep -i emc to check the version.
    8. Type:
      rpm -Uvh EMC-ScaleIO-lia-X.X-XXXX.XXX.rpm
      rpm -Uvh EMC-ScaleIO-sdc-X.X-XXXX-XXX.rpm
    9. Reboot the compute-only node.
    10. To verify that the SDC is connected in the PowerFlex presentation server GUI, click Configuration > SDCs.
    11. To verify the LIA/SDC version, type rpm -qa | grep -i emc.
  3. Ensure all your applications are running and the client connections to the applications are successful.
