Presentation server root password management

Use this procedure to change the presentation server root password.

About this task

During deployment of PowerFlex appliance, the person doing the installation sets the presentation server root password in PowerFlex Manager. When PowerFlex Manager deploys the presentation server, it sets the password in the operating system. When the presentation server password is changed after deployment, the presentation server password must also be changed within PowerFlex Manager to maintain manageability by PowerFlex Manager.

The terms <OLD_PASSWORD> and <NEW_PASSWORD> are used to see the current and new passwords respectively.

Steps

  1. To change the PowerFlex Manager presentation server root password, do the following:
    1. In PowerFlex Manager, go to Settings > Credential Management, select the presentation server credential, click Edit, change the Password to the <NEW_PASSWORD>, and click Save. See Credentials management for more information.
  2. To change the presentation server root password, do the following:
    1. Use an SSH client program like PuTTY to log in as root to the presentation server using <OLD_PASSWORD>.
    2. Change the presentation server root password using passwd command:
      [root@presentation-server ~]# passwd
Changing password for user root. New password: <NEW_PASSWORD>
      Retype new password: <NEW_PASSWORD>
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully
