Enabling SDC authentication

Once the SDCs have been prepared and configured for SDC authentication, you may proceed with enabling the feature. This procedure is not applicable for the PowerFlex management controller 2.0.

Prerequisites

Ensure all SDCs are configured with their appropriate CHAP secret. Any older or unconfigured SDC will be disconnected from the system when authentication is turned on.
You will need the following information:
  • The primary MDM IP address
  • Credentials to access the PowerFlex cluster

Steps

  1. SSH to the primary MDM address.
  2. Log in to the PowerFlex cluster using the provided credentials.
  3. Enable the SDC authentication, type: scli --set_sdc_authentication --enable
  4. Verify that the SDC authentication and authorization is turned on, and the SDCs are connected with passwords, type: scli --check_sdc_authentication_status

    Example output:

    [root@svm1 ~]# scli --check_sdc_authentication_status SDC authentication and
    authorization is enabled.
    Found 4 SDCs.
The number of SDCs with generated
    password: 4
The number of SDCs with updated
    password set: 4
  5. If the number of SDCs do not match, or you experience disconnected SDCs, list any or all disconnected SDCs and then disable the SDC authentication by using the commands: scli --query_all_sdc | grep "State: Disconnected" scli --set_sdc_authentication --disable

Recheck the disconnected SDCs to ensure they have the proper configuration applied. If necessary, regenerate their shared secret and reconfigure the SDC. If unable to resolve SDC disconnection, leave the feature disabled and engage Dell Technologies support as needed.
