Dell PowerFlex Appliance with PowerFlex 3.x Administration Guide

Configuring and viewing alerts

You can configure PowerFlex Manager to receive and display email alerts from discovered PowerFlex appliance components.

The alert connector is available through PowerFlex Manager. It sends email alerts on the health of PowerFlex nodes securely through Secure Remote Services. Secure Remote Services routes alerts to the Dell support queue for diagnosis and dispatch.

When using the alert connector with Secure Remote Services, critical alerts can automatically generate service requests. Dell Technologies Services continuously evaluates and updates which alerts automatically generate service requests. For more information, contact Dell Technologies Services.

During node discovery, you can configure iDRAC nodes to automatically send alerts to PowerFlex Manager. PowerFlex Manager receives SNMP alerts directly from iDRAC and forwards them to Secure Remote Services. You must manually configure CloudLink and Dell Networking OS10 switches to send alerts to PowerFlex Manager.

If not done at discovery, you can configure iDRAC nodes to automatically send alerts to PowerFlex Manager by editing the alert connector settings and selecting the Configure nodes for alert connector option.

PowerFlex Manager fetches telemetry reports from PowerFlex and forwards these reports as is to Secure Remote Services. The reports are then sent to the Dell Managed File Transfer (MFT) portal, where they can be leveraged by CloudIQ.

PowerFlex Manager forwards four different reports:
  • The configuration report is sent once a day.
  • The capacity report is sent every hour.
  • The performance report is sent every five minutes.
  • The alerts report is sent every five minutes.

CloudIQ integration is enabled by default. CloudIQ enables PowerFlex Manager to transport telemetry data, alerts and analytics via Secure Remote Services to assist Dell Technologies in providing support.

NOTE:The alert connector does not replace any monitoring software that you might already have, including any already available through the PowerFlex appliance such as PowerFlex Connect Home.

As of PowerFlex Manager version 3.3, OpenManage Enterprise is no longer required to connect to Secure Remote Services. If you use OpenManage Enterprise for other functionality, note that it is no longer installed and we recommend using PowerFlex Manager instead. In future upgrades, we will recommend removing this software module.
