Configure a USB drive for OS10 installation

Use this procedure to prepare and mount the USB drive on the switch.

About this task

This process is required for both automatic and manual installations using USB.
NOTE:Optionally, you can use SCP for this procedure. Download the image scp://userid:password@<hostip>:/filepath/PKGS_OS10-Enterprise-10.5.1.0EX.110strech-installer-x86_64.bin

Steps

  1. Extract the .TAR file, and copy the contents to a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive.
  2. Plug the USB flash drive into the USB port on the switch.
  3. From the ONIE menu, select ONIE: Install OS, then press the Ctrl-C key sequence to cancel.
  4. From the ONIE:/ # command prompt, enter the following commands:
ONIE:/ # onie-discovery-stop (this optional command stops the scrolling)
    ONIE:/ # mkdir /mnt/usb
    ONIE:/ # cd /mnt
ONIE:/mnt # fdisk –l (this command shows the device USB is using)
The switches storage devices and partitions are displayed.
  5. Use the device or partition that is formatted FAT32 (example: /dev/sdb1) in the next command.
    ONIE:/mnt # mount –t vfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb
    ONIE:/mnt # mount –a
The USB is now available for installing OS10 onto the switch.
