Checking the maximum transmission unit on the access switch

Use this procedure to check the maximum transmission unit on either the Dell PowerSwitch switch or the Cisco Nexus switch.

Steps

  1. From the switch CLI, log in to the switch you want to check.
  2. Check each interface for their MTU configuration.
    Switch type MTU configuration
    Dell PowerSwitch For the Dell S5048F PowerSwitch switch, type the following:
    NOTE:port-channel 100 is used as an example in the following:
    R1-BDC-TOR-A#show interface port-channel 1 | grep MTU
    MTU 9216 bytes, IP MTU 9184 bytes
    For the Dell S5224F PowerSwitch switch, type the following:
    S5224F#show interfaces port-channel 100 | grep MTU
    MTU 9216 bytes, IP MTU 9198 bytes
    For the Dell S4148F PowerSwitch switch, type the following:
    S4148F#show interfaces port-channel 100 | grep MTU
    MTU 9216 bytes, IP MTU 9198 bytes
    Cisco Nexus
    Cisco_Access-A# show interface port-channel 100 | grep MTU
    MTU 9216 bytes, BW 1000000 Kbit, DLY 10 usec
