Create the replication consistency group

Use this task to create the RCG when the remote site is up and running only.

About this task

The RCG is a logical container for volumes whose application data must be replicated consistency to each other. It includes a set of consistent volume pairs. The volume on the source from a single protection domain is replicated to a remote volume from a single protection domain on the target. This creates a consistent pair of volumes. You can add and manage RCG on both the source and target systems.

Before proceeding, create source and destination volumes of the same size. It is recommended, but not mandatory, that the volumes in the volume pair have the same attributes (including zero padding and granularity), not doing so can impact performance and capacity.

If you already have volume in source site, create the volume in destination site with same size.

NOTE:Do not map the volume that is created on target system to SDC.

Steps

  1. Log in to the source site presentation server: <https://presentation_server_IP>:8443.
NOTE:Use the primary MDM IP address and credentials to log in to the PowerFlex cluster.
  2. In the left pane, click Protection > RCGs.
  3. In the right pane, click Add.
  4. In the Add RCG wizard, enter the following on the General page:
    1. Enter the RCG Name.
    2. Enter the number of RPO (recovery point objective) minutes. This is the amount of time of data loss that is tolerated if replication between the systems is compromised.
    3. Select Source Protection Domain.
    4. Select Target System.
    5. Select Target Protection Domain.
  5. Click Next.
  6. On the Add Replication Pairs page:
    1. Click the volume from the Source column and then click the same size volume from the Target column.
    2. Click Add Pair. The volume pair is added.
    3. Click Next.
  7. On the Review Pairs page:
    1. Ensure that the correct source and volume pair are selected and click ADD RCG & START REPLICATION.
    2. Verify that the operation completed successfully and click Dismiss.

The RCG is added to both the source and target systems.

It is necessary to wait for the end of the initial copy transmit before start to use.
