Dell PowerFlex Appliance with PowerFlex 4.x Architecture Overview

PowerFlex node networking

A PowerFlex appliance is based on either an access/aggregation leaf-spine topology. You also have the option to implement your preferred networking as long as the connections to and between PowerFlex nodes meet PowerFlex requirements.

General network connectivity descriptions

A pair of access switches are required to handle all inter-cabinet network traffic between the nodes.

A standard deployment is one pair of access or leaf switches per cabinet. A management switch is required to support the out-of-band management requirements of the system. Management switches are needed to support network connectivity from the following equipment:

  • One for each PowerFlex controller to support management traffic
  • One for each PowerFlex controller iDRAC connection
  • One for each PowerFlex node iDRAC connections
  • One for each switch for the out-of-band connection if switches are managed by PowerFlex Manager
