The H840 card is an external card. The H840 card supports:
Up to eight enclosures using single path configuration.
Up to four enclosure using multipath configuration.
To set up a configuration with redundant paths, both ports on a controller must be cabled to the ports of a single enclosure.
NOTE:The PERC H840 card supports redundant paths when used with Dell PowerVault MD14XX series disk storage enclosures.
NOTE:The Enhanced HBA mode is not supported on PERC H840.
NOTE:To connect to external enclosures, PERC H840 use the HD Mini-SAS SFF-8644 cables.
NOTE:To connect to MD24XX series enclosures, the H840 card firmware version must be 51.16.0-4795 or later.
NOTE:For MD24XX series disk storage enclosures, the redundant path configuration is the only valid configuration.
To set up a multipath enclosure on the PERC H840 card:
To connect a single enclosure, cable the ports so that the enclosure is connected to both the ports on the controller card.
To connect multiple enclosures, connect two cables from the controller to the first enclosure as in case in point no 1. Next, connect cables from the first enclosure to the second enclosure. From here, continue to connect two cables from the last enclosure in the chain to the next enclosure you wish to include until you have up to 4 enclosures connected.
To set up a single path enclosure on the PERC H840 card:
To connect a single enclosure, cable the ports so that the enclosure is connected to both the ports on the controller card.
To connect multiple enclosures, single cables connect the first enclosure to the second enclosure, then the single cable connects the second enclosure to the third enclosure.
NOTE:You must use a PD240 profile to support more than 64 drives. For more information, see
