Removing a GPU

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
  2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.

Steps

  1. Press the blue tabs on either sides of the shroud and remove the top cover of the GPU air shroud.

  2. Lift the expansion card latch.
  3. Close the PCIe card holder latch on the GPU air shroud.
  4. Hold the GPU by its edges and slide out the GPU at an angle to release it from the connector on the riser.

  5. Disconnect the GPU power cable from the GPU and system board.
  6. If you are removing the GPU permanently, install a filler bracket over the empty slot opening, and lower the expansion card latch.
    NOTE You must install a filler bracket over an empty expansion card slot to maintain Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification of the system. The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the system. The filler bracket is necessary to maintain proper thermal conditions.
