System memory guidelines

Your system contains four memory sockets that are organized into two channels. In each channel, the first socket is marked white and the second socket black.

Figure 1. Memory socket locations

This image shows the memory socket location.

Memory channels are organized as follows:

Table 1. Memory channelsThis table describes memory channels and how the channels are organized.
Channel 0 Channel 1
Slot A1 and A3 Slot A2 and A4
Table 2. Memory populationThis table describes the memory population and the operating frequencies.
DIMM Type DIMMs Populated/Channel Voltage Operating Frequency Maximum DIMM Rank/Channel
UDIMM 1 1.2 V 2666 MT/s Dual rank or Single rank
2
NOTE 3200 MT/s UDIMM is compatible from BIOS version 2.5.1 but downshift to 2666 MT/s operational speed.
The following table shows sample memory configurations.
NOTE 1R and 2R in the following table indicate single and dual-rank memory modules respectively.
Table 3. Memory configurations1. In a single memory processor with a populated capacity of 4 GB, install the 4 GB memory modules in slot A1. 2. In a single memory processor with a populated capacity of 8 GB, install the 4 GB memory modules in slots A1 and A2. 3. In a single memory processor with a populated capacity of 16 GB, install the 4 GB memory modules in slots A1, A2, A3, and A4. 4. In a single memory processor with a populated capacity of 16 GB, install the 8 GB memory modules in slots A1 and A2. 5. In a single memory processor with a populated capacity of 32 GB, install the 8 GB memory modules in slots A1, A2, A3, and A4. In a single memory processor with a populated capacity of 32 GB, install the 16 GB memory modules in slots A1 and A2. 6. In a single memory processor with a populated capacity of 64 GB, install the 16 GB memory modules in slots A1, A2, A3, and A4.
