Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 5.12.0.1 Virtual Machine User Guide
Support for Debian or Ubuntu operating system
vProxy file-level restore is supported on the Debian/Ubuntu operating system. To configure the Debian or Ubuntu guest operating system for file-level restore, perform the following steps.
About this task
NOTE File-level restore is not supported on Debian ext4 file systems.
Steps
- Log in to the system console as a non-root user.

Run the
sudo passwd root command.
Enter the new password twice to set a password for the root account.
- Run the sudo passwd -u root command to unlock the root account.

Specify the root user credentials in the
Dell EMC Data Protection Restore Client and proceed to complete the file-level restore operation at least once.
While performing the file-level restore operation for the first time, remember to select Keep FLR agent.
- After performing the above steps at least once, you can revert the root account to the locked state and use non-root account for future file-level restore requests. Non-root user can lock the root account with the sudo passwd -l root command.
