This section describes Data Manager Appliance Software known issues.
Issue ID | Description | Workaround/resolution |
---|---|---|
DMAS(P)-221517 | During a TSDM-enabled virtual machine backup, a file named
lastSdmDiskBackupPath.json, which contains snapshot metadata, is created in the virtual machine.
This file is required to perform in-place backups of the virtual machine, but does not get automatically removed when the virtual machine is no longer included in the protection policy. As a result, the storage unit containing these virtual machine backups cannot be deleted. |
When deleting the storage unit where the virtual machine backups are located, ensure that you manually remove the lastSdmDiskBackupPath.json file |
DMAS(P)-224908 | Discovery of a vCenter server that is managed by NSX or a product other than vSphere can fail if two logical networks that are part of an opaque-network configuration have the same network ID. If discovery fails in this situation, log files show the following text:
Exception Response Body {"code":500,"reason":"Duplicate key … |
No workaround is available. |
DMAS (D)-188507 | You might observe socket timeout exception during the execution of the REST request for Protection storage log bundle creation workflow.
This issue occurs when Protection storage takes more than 10 minutes for support bundle creation. The timeout is set to 10 minutes. Therefore, if the REST request takes more than 10 minutes, the following error is observed:
java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out |
Retry the operation and if subsequent retry operation fails, contact Dell Support for the resolution. |
DMAS (D)-188660 | Protection Storage raises the following configuration alert:
Error communicating with mail server. Mailserver=mail: Cause=NotApplicable This is due to the default setting of the Mail server set as "mail". |
Ensure that you configure a valid mail server. If there are no mail servers configured, you can ignore the alert.
If you want to change the default mail server "mail" from Protection Storage, contact Dell Support. |
DMAS(P)-225996 | Occasionally, the
Disaster Recovery >
Manage Backups page fails to load with the following error:
500: Internal Server Error |
Retry the operation. |
DMAS(P)-225111 | The DNS server might not be configured correctly to resolve the server name to IP. | Ensure that your DNS is working properly. |
DMAS(P)-225629 | You might observe the following error when you log out of PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance:
401: Authentication Required |
Log in again, if required. |
DMAS(P)-219559 | When restoring to a destination vCenter Server that is running on a Windows operating system in a non-English locale, the following restore types report a status of "Completed with exceptions":
This status displays because PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance is unable to reconfigure the network device to connect the restored virtual machine to the network. |
After the restore completes, use the vSphere Client to manually reconnect the network adapter. |
DMAS(P)-222878 | A 404 error might occur after starting a Software Update. Dismiss this error and the update will proceed. | No workaround is available. |
DMAS (D)-187584 | An intermittent TLS connection failure is observed on the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance and the following message is displayed:
Cannot connect to the storage system to gather capacity information |
Refresh the page to restore the connection. |
DMAS(P)-223931 | Reports are not persisted and are only accessible for up to 24 hours. | Regenerate the report. |
DMAS(P)-223966 | Scheduled discovery for an inventory source gets triggered even after removing the appliance from an asset source. | Remove the out-of-date schedule entry for discovery. Follow the instructions in the Knowledge Base Article 000211666. |
DMAS(P)-224877 | If the NFS communication between the search nodes is slow, Search engine disaster recovery backups fail and the Search engine remains in a failed state with the following message:
Indexing service has detected a communication issue. Search engine may require restart on node(s): search2.dpappliance.local. |
Follow the instructions in the Knowledge Base Article 000211179. |
DMAS (I)- 20180 | The warning displayed in the System Configuration page of the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance UI is incorrect. The correct message is:
Contact Dell support before changing the network parameters, if there are existing protection policies, vProxies and agents configured with management and data networks. It is required to execute this operation via appliance service port. |
No workaround is available. |
DMAS (D)-174488 | Intermittent failure observed with backup and disaster recovery scenarios. You must mount the storage unit from DD. | Manual DR backups or subsequent automatic DR backups will succeed after a remount operation. |
DMAS (D)-178029 | Active tier storage capacity not reflected on the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance UI after storage expansion. | No workaround is available. |
DPDUI-2507 | On the Asset Jobs page, the details pane will close automatically every 60 seconds | You can reopen the details pane. |
DMAS (I)-13246 | Creating a VLAN with a gateway that does not exist fails. | Delete the specified VLAN network and add the same network again with the correct or working gateway. |
DMAS (I)-19219 | PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance UI does not re-direct to the login screen from the Update screen after the session has expired. | Refresh the page and login again. |
DMAS(P)-222622 | A protection policy configuration cancellation job might get stuck if one or more assets are unresponsive. | Remediate unresponsive assets in the protection policy. |
DMAS(P)-204271 | Virtual machine protection backups fails with the following error:
The backup had terminated unexpectedly |
Manually restart failed backups. |
DMAS(P)-218729 | When you are setting audit log retention, the Days of Retention field accepts values higher than the maximum of 180 days. | Specify the retention days within the recommended range. |
DMAS(P)-219834 | Server DR backups fails with the following error:
Telemetry Service Backup Failed |
Wait for the next scheduled DR backup job. |
DMAS(P)-223802 | The backup job summary email generated from the Report Browser shows the time in UTC, but does not list the timezone as UTC. | No workaround is available. |
DMAS(P)-220420 | PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance UI does not show the busy indicator during the recovery process. You can monitor the current recovery state from the text displayed in the recovery window. | No workaround is available. |
DMAS(P)-220636 | Users without PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance appropriate Active Directory roles can see the dashboard with errors. | It is not intended for users without the appropriate roles to see the dashboard. However, the errors appropriately reflect the read-only status of the users and their inability to access navigation links.
The affected users should be informed that either they should not be accessing PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance or an administrator must assign them the appropriate roles. If the appropriate roles have already been assigned, then the roles must be deleted and added again. If this does not resolve the problem, then the user or group account must be deleted and added again. |
DMAS(P)-221718 | Reporting Engine deployment fails with the following JBoss exception:
javax.ejb.EJBAccessException: JBAS014502 |
Delete and deploy the Reporting Service or recover from Server DR backup. |

On the Alerts page, filtering by category does not create a filter pill. |
Manage category filtering with the column filter drop down. |
DMAS(P)-222903 | Unable to select the same storage used in other stages even after canceling the same storage warning. | Cancel the stage and then select the storage again and complete the required configurations. |
DMAS(D)-172854 | Alerts are not displayed for protection storage when FS is 100% full on Operating Environment alerts, instead the alerts that are generated from Protection Storage CLI are shown. | If Customer gets 90% full alert in the DM5500, clean the clutter to clear up additional space. If the space is available, based on the ROC (Data rate of change of backups) customer can align new backups. However, customers can contact Support for any difficulties in deleting the backups and Support can advise to apply the additional license. |
DMAS(D)-173928 | Storage page takes ~20 seconds to load the first time it is opened. | Wait for the page to load for the first time and continue. |
DMAS(D)-174761 | Timing fluctuates for disk rebuild procedure in DM5500. | No workaround is available. |
DMAS(I)-16178 | If there is a power outage when the upgrade is in progress, the upgrade job fails. The services like Reporting, search1.dpappliance.local, and search2.dpappliance.local does not come up even after the power comes back. | Follow the manual recovery procedure as in the KB 205745. |
DMAS(I)-16413 | Hypervisor password is changed to new password which is not a password that is generated by Operating Environment algorithm. | The new password supports the following characters:
_ . @ ! # % ^ * - in 5.12.0.1 and later. User should avoid using / and \ characters for password. |
DMAS(I)-16509 | If the scheduled Disaster Recovery (DR) backup job gets triggered when the user clicks the Finish button after a successful upgrade, the DR backup job may fail. | This DR backup job failure can be ignored. Monitor the next scheduled DR backup job. Contact Support for assistance if the next DR backup job fails. |
DMAS(I)-16657 | The update process gets stuck during the update package uploading process due to authorization error. | Follow the procedure as in the KB000205768 for the workaround. |

DMAS(P)-200665 | For SQL application-aware workflows within scopes of authority, Data Manager Appliance Software does not automatically assign databases to the resource group which contains the corresponding services. Only manual asset selection is supported. | To automatically make the database assets visible to limited-privilege users when selecting by protection policy, configure the resource group to include All Assets for the SQL asset type. This selection is in addition to any service assets. |
DMAS(P)-202312 | Even after a successful upgrade of Cloud DR, the Details field under System Jobs > Job ID: <xxxxx> displays an error that the upgrade has failed. | The Details field incorrectly displays the error. You can ignore the error. |
DMAS(P)-203502 | During the initial configuration, the Launch button on the Getting Started page skips launching the Getting Started workflow and displays the dashboard to the user. | All options on the Getting Started page are available from the appliance UI. To return to the Getting Started page, append getting-started to the URL after logging in. Example: https://<hostname/IP>/#/auth2/getting-started. For detailed information, see the KB 205730. |
