Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 5.12.0.1 Installation Guide for DM5500

Rack rails

The DM5500 supports only static rails. There is no sliding rail option and there are no external cable management options such as a cable management arm (CMA) or strain relief bar (SRB).

The image shows Static rail

The static rails support tool-less mounting in EIA/ECA-310-E compliant square hole and unthreaded round hole 4-post racks.

Table 1. Static railsThe table below shows the sliding and static rail configurations and supported racks:
Rail identifier Mounting interface Rail type Supported rack types
4-Post
Square Round Threaded
- Generic Tool-less Static X

The static rails offer a greater adjustability range and a smaller overall mounting footprint than the sliding rails. This feature is due to their reduced complexity and lack of need for external cable management (CMA, SRB) support.

Table 2. Static rails adjustabilityThe table below shows the flexibility of the static rails compared to sliding rails according to rail types.
Rail Identifier Rail Type Rail Adjustable Range—mm Rail Depth—mmb
Square Round Threaded Without CMA/ SRB With CMA/SRB
Min Max Min Max Min Max
- Static 603a917 603a917 N/A N/A N/A N/A
NOTE:a: Minimum conversion required
NOTE:b: Rail depth is same as distance between front and rear mounting flanges of the rack. Rails do not support external cable management (CMA, SRB).
NOTE:The adjustment range of the rails is a function of the type of rack in which they are being mounted. The Min/Max values listed above represent the allowable distance between the front and rear mounting flanges in the rack.
