Configure cloud tier cleaning schedule

Files in the cloud tier can be deleted as normal; however, associated space on cloud or object storage is not immediately reclaimed for use. The cloud tier must be cleaned to remove this superfluous data from the cloud. Perform the following steps to configure cloud tier cleaning schedule.

Prerequisites

  • You must have a schedule setup to clean the active tier.
  • A cloud unit must have experienced a minimum of 1% data 'churn' (>= 1% of the data existing on the cloud unit must be deemed to be superfluous) for cloud clean to start.
  • Active tier clean and cloud clean cannot run in parallel.
  • If cloud clean has started automatically through its schedule and active tier clean is started, cloud unit clean is aborted to allow active tier clean to run.
  • If there are two cloud units and scheduled cleaning of the first unit fails for some reason (for example, insufficient churn), cleaning will automatically attempt to start against the second unit (it is not required to wait for the next scheduled run of cloud clean for the second unit to be cleaned).

About this task

Cloud cleaning only operates against a single cloud unit during each run. If a system has two cloud units that are configured, cloud clean will round robin cleaning of these units attempting to clean a single unit each time cloud clean is run.

Steps

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Infrastructure > Storage.
    The Storage window appears.
  2. On the Summary tab, in the Cloud Tier section, click the three vertical dots.
  3. From the menu, select Cleaning Schedule.
The Cloud Tier Cleaning Schedule dialog box appears.
  4. Configure the schedule, as required. By default, the cloud tier is scheduled to be cleaned after every four active-tier cleans.
NOTE: The cloud clean schedule does not include manually started active tier clean cycles. As a result, even if active tier clean was run manually every day, cloud tier clean would only start once every 4 weeks.
  5. To revert to the default schedule, click Reset to Default.
  6. Click Save to save the schedule.
