Enable protection rules to move virtual assets across policies

By default, protection rules move unprotected assets (assets that have yet to be added to a protection policy) into protection policies. For VMware assets, however, you can enable an option for protection rules to move protected virtual assets across protection policies.

Prerequisites

NOTE: This option is only available for protection rules that are applied to VMware virtual assets.

About this task

This option might be useful when you want to move assets from an old protection policy to a new policy, or unprotect assets that no longer require protection. When enabled, if the asset properties or the protection rules are changed, PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance recalculates the asset policy assignments according to the changed status. To enable this option, perform the following steps:

Steps

  1. Connect to the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance console as an admin user.
  2. Use a Linux text editor to open the /usr/local/brs/lib/cbs/config/application.properties file.
    If this file does not exist, create the file.
  3. Add the following line to the file:
    cbs.dynamicFilter.moveVmAssetsAcrossProtectionPoliciesEnabled=true
  4. Save and close the file.
  5. Apply the new configuration:
    cbs restart
