PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 5.16.0.0 Oracle RMAN User Guide

Enable the Oracle RMAN agent after migration to a different host

You can migrate to a different Oracle RMAN agent host and connect it with PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance by reusing the IP address and hostname of the former host.

About this task

This procedure is applicable for the following use cases:

  • Operating system upgrade of the application agent host
  • Service pack update

The operating system version of the new application host can be the same as or different from the operating system version of the former host. Perform the following steps to migrate the Oracle RMAN agent to a new host by reusing the same IP address and hostname as the former host.

Steps

  1. If the impacted host is the only host in a protection policy, disable the protection policy.
  2. Delete the host by deleting the asset source according to Delete an asset source. This procedure unregisters the host from PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance and removes the host assets after all the asset copies have expired.
The old assets will be removed, and the asset source is marked as deleted.
  3. Register the new host with PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance using the same hostname and IP address.
NOTE:You can also use a different IP address and FQDN for the new host.
  4. To migrate the Oracle RMAN agent to the new host from the old asset copies, perform a disaster recovery to the new host using a centralized disaster recovery in the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance UI.
  5. Enable the protection policy, and add the new assets into the protection policy either manually or using the protection rule if any.
NOTE:If you did not disable the protection policy, any associated assets that are protected by the protection policy are removed automatically. Add the required assets back into the policy to continue protecting the assets.
