Upgrade the application agent (NAS or File System) to the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16 version along with the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance software update. This update allows you to apply the file filters that are added in the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16, to the protection policy backups.
Filters that were used for backups on hosts with agent versions that are earlier than
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16 continue to function as usual, if they are not edited using the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16. Newly created filters from the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16 cannot be used with hosts with agent versions that are older than
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16.
For example, the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.15 or 5.15 has assets from two file system hosts (host A and host B), both at version
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.15 or 5.15.
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance is upgraded to
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16, host A is upgraded to
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16, and host B remains at
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.15 or 5.15. If the filter is not edited, the backup on both host A and host B
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance continues to backup files by applying the filter as they functioned in
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.15 or 5.15.
If the filter is edited or modified using the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16 UI or API, then:
The backup operation on the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16 host A applies the filter as expected.
The backup operation on the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.15 or 5.15 host B does not apply the filter since the host agent version 19.15 or 5.15 is not compatible with the new filter.
This is indicated in the backup job status as
Complete with exceptions. The exception message indicates that this host agent must be upgraded for the filter to be applied. A full backup is taken with no filters on host B.
Use the new filtering capabilities in
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.16 or 5.16, upgrade the host B agent version to 19.16 or 5.16.
NOTE:
The allowed proxy levels for NAS share are
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 19.15 or 19.16,
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 5.15 or 5.16.
Failure to apply a file filter on a backup means, the backup is a full backup with no files filtered out. There is no data loss encountered.
