Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 5.16.0.0 Installation Guide for DM5500

Connect iDRAC cable

Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) configuration and cabling provides an out-of-band method for remote management. iDRAC configuration and cabling may be required for Dell support engineers to debug and troubleshoot. The iDRAC port on the DM5500 is 1 GbE Base-T.

iDRAC configuration is strongly recommended because iDRAC can be used by Dell support to:

  • Power the appliance on after required maintenance activities.
  • Gather detailed information about the state of the hardware.
CAUTION:If you do not configure the iDRAC IP address, Dell support response time will be impacted. You can configure the iDRAC IP address in the Data Manager Appliance Configuration UI during the initial DM5500 configuration.

The DM5500 has one iDRAC connection/hostname (1 GbE RJ45). The 1 GbE management switch to which the iDRAC cable connects must have RJ45 connections. One CAT5e/CAT6 cable is required to connect the iDRAC port to the network switch. You can use any type of switch, as long as it is an RJ45 switch that supports 1 GbE and VLAN. You should connect the iDRAC port to the external (routable) network VLAN.
