Supported versions of VIB and installing PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance update packages

VIB versions correspond to PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance versions. If a version of PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance is supported, the same version of VIB is supported.

So long as the versions of both PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance and VIB are supported, those versions do not need to be the same. For supported versions, see the E-Lab Navigator.

When installing a PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance update package, the following occurs to the versions of VIB on ESXi hosts:

• If automatic VIB management is enabled, the versions of VIB on ESXi hosts are automatically updated with the version of PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance.
• If automatic VIB management is disabled and the versions of VIB on ESXi hosts are supported, the versions of VIB are not updated with the version of PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance.
• If automatic VIB management is disabled and the version of VIB on an ESXi host is not supported, the version of VIB is automatically updated with the version of PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance.

This update logic ensures that any supported version of PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance is deployed in an environment where every ESXi host has a supported version of VIB.
