Supporting existing Microsoft application agent backups with
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance
The Microsoft application agent provides the capability to import existing stand-alone deployments, including their existing backups, to
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance. Existing backups are Microsoft application agent backups that you performed before integrating the Microsoft application agent with the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance software and before adding an asset to a
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance protection policy.
NOTE:
Importing
Microsoft Exchange Server backup copies to
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance is supported only from backups performed with Microsoft application agent 4.7 and later.
You can import up to three previous months of existing backups.
Retention lock is not supported for discovered existing backups in
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance.
Importing DD Boost-over-FC backups is not supported.
With the import capability,
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance provides the following centralized features:
Visibility of both existing backups and any new self-service or
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance policy-driven backups of configured assets.
Automatic configuration of target protection storage based on the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance protection policies that are used for your database.
All the other functionality that is provided for
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance protection policies.
When you create a protection policy, the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance software can either create or reuse a storage unit on the specified DD system backup host, subject to limitations. All subsequent backups of assets in that protection policy go to this storage unit. This implementation uses scripts to override the storage unit information that is provided in any running backup with the storage unit information from
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance.
