Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 5.15.0.0 Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) Procedures Guide for DM5500

Installing a drive carrier

Prerequisites

CAUTION:When installing a drive, ensure that the adjacent drives are fully installed. Inserting a drive carrier and attempting to lock its handle next to a partially installed carrier can damage the carrier shield spring on the partially installed carrier and make it unusable.
CAUTION:When a replacement hot swappable drive is installed and the system is powered on, the drive automatically begins to build. Ensure that the replacement drive is blank or contains data that you want to overwrite. Any data on the replacement drive is immediately lost after the drive is installed.
NOTE:Ensure that the drive carrier release handle is in the open position before inserting the carrier into the slot.

Steps

  1. Open the drive carrier release handle and slide the drive carrier into the drive slot.
  2. Close the drive carrier release handle to lock the drive in place.

  3. Ensure that the drive fault indicator turns off, and use the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance software to verify that the drive is operating properly.
