PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance 5.15.0.0 Administrator's Guide for DM5500

Configuring syslog server

Syslog server acts as remote server and is utilised to store all the audit logs of the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance.

About this task

Use the following procedure to provide details on configuration of syslog server.

Steps

  1. From the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance user interface, click Settings icon, and then click Logs.
    The Logs window is displayed.
  2. Click Syslog.
If NTP is not configured in the appliance, then the timestamp information is not synced in the forwarding messages.
  3. Enable Syslog Forwarding toggle option.
The new audit log message is forwarded to the syslog sever.

If TCP is selected, then the connection status is set to Connected after the first audit message is forwarded successfully.

  4. Provide the following details:
    1. IP Address/FQDN: Enter the IP address of the machine that is considered as remote server to collect the audit logs data.
    2. Port: The available ports are 514, 6514, 10514.
    3. Protocol: The available values are TCP and UDP.
NOTE: Port 514 is enabled for both UDP and TCP, however by default, both the ports(6514 and 10514) are enabled for TCP only.
  5. Click Save.
