Modify the appliance network, location, time zone and NTP server

This section is for modifying the appliance management and data network along with DNS, location, time zone and the NTP server for the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance.

Prerequisites

Use this procedure to:
  • Modify the appliance management and data network, only when there are no existing protection policies, VM Proxies and agents configured with these network parameters.
  • Modify the DNS, location, time zone and the NTP server.
CAUTION:Contact Dell support before changing the management and data networks, if there are existing protection policies, VM Proxies and agents configured with these network parameters. It is required to execute this operation via appliance service port.

Steps

  1. From the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance UI, click Settings icon, and then click System Configuration.
    The System Configuration wizard appears.
  2. The Introduction page provides prerequisites and post-configuration details for changing management and data network parameters and changing DNS/NTP.
    Click Next to go to the Network page, after checking the prerequisites and post-configuration details.
  3. Update the required network details as below in the Network page.
    1. Enter the management IP in the Management IP field.
    2. Enter the data IPs in the Data IP 1 and Data IP 2 fields.
      NOTE: If the appliance is initially configured with two data IPs, then System Configuration wizard requires two data IPs during modification. But if the appliance is configured with one data IP during initial configuration, then System Configuration wizard cannot accept two data IPs.
    3. Enter the management FQDN in the Management FQDN field.
    4. Enter the management domain name in the Management Domain Name field.
    5. Enter the management VLAN ID in the Management VLAN ID field.
    6. Enter the management subnet mask in the Management Subnet Mask field.
    7. Enter the management gateway IP in the Management Gateway field.
    8. NOTE:For adding separate data network details manually, check the box next to Separate Data Network to enable the fields.
      Enter the data VLAN ID in the Data VLAN ID field.
    9. Enter the data subnet mask in the Data Subnet Mask field.
    10. (Optional) Enter the data gateway IP in the Data Gateway field.
    11. Enter the DNS values in the DNS section.
    Click Next to go to the Time/Location page.
  4. Update the appropriate details as below.
    1. Enter the region in the Location field.
    2. Select the time zone in the Time zone field.
    3. Enter the NTP server IP address in the NTP Servers (IP address) field.
      NOTE:To add a secondary NTP server click on the + icon and enter the IP address. While changing the NTP server, Security Officer authorization is required to submit the System Configuration modifications. If the security officer user is not created the Submission button is disabled, and an alert message is displayed for creating a security officer user for the NTP change to submit. If security officer user is already available, system allows to submit system configuration by providing the credentials for the user on the Security Officer Authentication Needed window. See Configure a local Security Officer role user, for more information on SO authorization.
    Click Next to go to the iDRAC page.
  5. Click Next in the iDRAC page if iDRAC has already been configured during Day 1 configuration. If the user has upgraded from an older build to PPDM 5.14.x.x, fill the appropriate iDRAC fields as below and click Next.
    1. Enter the iDRAC username in the Username field.
    2. Enter the iDRAC password in the Password field.
    3. Re-enter the iDRAC password in the Reenter Password field.
    NOTE:To enable the optional iDRAC Network Settings, check the box next to Configure network settings and fill the appropriate fields.
    NOTE:It is strongly recommended to configure iDRAC network settings from the DM5500 appliance UI only and not modify any settings from the iDRAC UI.
    1. Enter the iDRAC IP address in the IP Address field.
    2. Enter the subnet mask in the Subnet Mask field.
    3. Enter the gateway in the Gateway field.
    The Summary page appears.
  6. Check the details in the Summary page and tick the checkbox to verify that the prerequisites steps have been completed and click Apply to confirm the modified settings.
    NOTE:To make changes, click Edit on the top right corner of the appropriate field.
    The Progress page appears.
  7. In the Progress page, wait for the configuration to be applied. Click Finish once the operation has successfully completed.
    NOTE:Click Show details to see more information on the progress. In case the operation fails, click Back to re-direct to the Network page, modify the settings as required and click Apply.
    NOTE:It is not recommended to perform any operations on the appliance until the system configuration is complete. A warning message is displayed on the dashboard when system configuration is in progress and an error message will be displayed when system configuration fails.
    The appliance UI will redirect to the new management FQDN. Login to appliance UI using admin credentials. To verify the new management and data network details, go to Infrastructure > Network.
