Configure Protection Policies with Replication Stage Vaulted

Prerequisites

Ensure that at least one asset source is enabled and the assets are discovered on the appliance.

Steps

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Protection > Protection Policies.
    TheProtection Policies window appears.
  2. In the Protection Policies window, click Add.
    The Add Policy wizard appears.
  3. On the Type page, specify the following fields, and then click Next:
    • Name—Type a descriptive name for the protection policy. For example, Backup Replication Stage Vaulted)
    • Description—Type a description for the policy.
    • Type—Select Virtual Machine, which includes protection for SQL application-aware virtual machines.
  4. On the Purpose page, select Crash Consistent for point-in-time backup of virtual machines.
  5. Click Next.
    The Assets wizard appears.
  6. On the Assets page, select the assets for inclusion in this policy by choosing the appropriate option from the list.
  7. Click Next.
    If any virtual objects or assets that were selected in the previous page overlap with assets that are already protected by another policy, the Selection Overlap page appears. Review the asset list and click OK to continue or Cancel to return to the Assets page.
  8. Click Next.
    The Objectives page appears.
  9. On the Objectives page, select a policy-level Service Level Agreement (SLA) from the Set Policy Level SLA list, or select Add to open the Add Service Level Agreement wizard and create a policy-level SLA.
  10. Click Add under Primary Backup.
    1. Select a New Storage Unit to use as the target directory, from the Add Primary Backup UI.
    2. Select the network interface to use when transferring data from the client to the Internal Storage.
    3. Define the Service Level Agreement (SLA) for the policy now or edit later.
    4. Select Synthetic Full backup to be performed once a day. You can choose multiple backup schedules for this policy.
    5. Choose the backup every time frame.
    6. Choose the Retain for time frame.
    7. Choose Start and End time frame.
  11. Click Save.
    The primary back up is set.
  12. Click Replicate > Add, to create a replication stage for the policy.
  13. Select Local Storage as the replication target, from the Storage Name drop-down.
  14. Click Save to accept the default values for Storage Unit, Network Interface, and Schedules.
    The replication stage is set.
  15. Click Vault > Add, to secure our replicated data to the vault.
  16. Click Ok once you review the Replicated Source and Vault Storage details.
  17. Click Next to continue.
  18. Click Finish once you review the settings of the Protection Policy.

Results

A replication staged policy was successfully created with the vault stage enabled on DM5500.
