Removing the voltage-regulator heat sink

CAUTION:The information in this removal section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the side cover.
  3. Remove the processor fan and heat-sink assembly (for 125 W processors).
    NOTE:This procedure applies only to computers shipped with 125 W processors installed.

About this task

WARNING:The voltage-regulator heat sink may become hot during normal operation. Allow sufficient time for the voltage-regulator heat sink to cool before you touch it.
CAUTION:For maximum cooling of the processor, do not touch the heat transfer areas on the voltage-regulator heat sink. The oils in your skin can reduce the heat transfer capability of the thermal grease.

Steps

  1. Loosen the four captive screws that secure the voltage-regulator heat sinks to the system board.
  2. Lift the two voltage-regulator heat sinks off the system board.
