Removing the slim optical drive

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the side cover.
  3. Remove the front bezel.

Steps

  1. Remove the EMI shield from the front side of the chassis.
  2. Remove the data and power cables from the retention clip on the disk-drive cage.
  3. Remove the screw (M3) that secures the disk-drive cage to the chassis.
  4. Push the securing tab to release the disk-drive cage from the chassis.
  5. Gently slide the disk-drive cage away from the slot on the chassis.
  6. Disconnect the data and power cables from the respective connectors on the slim optical drive.
  7. Disconnect the data and power cables from the respective connectors on the hard drive.
  8. Push the securing tab to release the slim optical drive from the disk-drive cage.
  9. Slide and remove the slim optical drive from the slot on the disk-drive cage.
  10. Pry the slim optical-drive bracket to release it from the slot on the slim optical drive.
  11. Remove the slim optical-drive bracket from the slim optical drive.
