Removing the external SMA antenna module

CAUTION:The information in this removal section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the side cover.
  3. Remove the external puck antenna.
  4. Remove the wireless card.

About this task

NOTE:This step applies only to computers shipped with an optional external SMA antenna installed.

The following images indicate the location of the external SMA antenna module and provide a visual representation of the removal procedure.

Steps

  1. Open the retention clip and remove the external SMA antenna-module cable from the retention clip on the chassis.
  2. Lift the pull tab on the PCIe door outwards to open the PCIe door.
  3. Gently remove the external SMA antenna module from the PCIe card connector (SLOT4) on the system board.
  4. Align and slide the PCIe blanking plate in the slot on the chassis.
    NOTE:Do not perform this step if you are immediately replacing the external SMA antenna module with a new PCIe card.
  5. Close the PCIe door and press it gently until it clicks in place on the chassis.
    NOTE:Do not perform this step if you are immediately replacing the external SMA antenna module with a new PCIe card.
