Installing the processor fan and heat-sink assembly (for 65 W processors)

CAUTION:The information in this installation section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation procedure.

About this task

NOTE:If either the processor or the heat sink is replaced, use the thermal grease that is provided in the kit to ensure that thermal conductivity is achieved.

The following images indicate the location of the processor fan and heat-sink assembly and provide a visual representation of the installation procedure.

Steps

  1. Align the screw holes on the processor fan and heat-sink assembly with the screw holes on the system board.
  2. Place the processor fan and heat-sink assembly on the processor.
  3. In the sequential order (1 > 2 > 3 > 4) etched on the system board, tighten the four captive screws to secure the processor fan and heat-sink assembly to the system board.
  4. Connect the processor fan and heat-sink assembly cable to the connector (FAN CPU) on the system board.
