Installing the 3.5-inch hard drive

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation procedure.

About this task

The following images indicate the location of the 3.5-inch hard drive and provide a visual representation of the installation procedure.

Steps

  1. Align the tabs on the 3.5-inch hard-drive bracket with the slots on the hard drive and place the hard drive in the hard-drive bracket.
  2. Snap the hard-drive bracket onto the 3.5-inch hard drive.
  3. Align and slide the 3.5-inch hard-drive assembly in the hard-drive slot on the disk-drive cage.
  4. Connect the data and power cables to the respective connectors on the 3.5-inch hard drive.
  5. Connect the data and power cables to the respective connectors on the slim optical drive.
  6. Align and slide the disk-drive cage in the slot on the chassis.
  7. Align the screw hole on the disk-drive cage with the screw hole on the chassis.
  8. Replace the screw (M3) to secure the disk-drive cage to the chassis.
  9. Route the data and power cables through the retention clip on the disk-drive cage.
  10. Align and place the EMI shield in the slot on the chassis.
    NOTE:When placing the EMI shield, ensure that arrow printed on the front side of the EMI shield faces up.
