Dell OpenManage Integration with Microsoft Windows Admin Center Version 3.0 User’s Guide

Key features of OMIMSWAC

Table 1. Key features in OpenManage Integration with Microsoft Windows Admin Center
Functional area Feature description Summary of benefits
Monitoring and Management Monitor and manage Dell PowerEdge servers and clusters OMIMSWAC provides a simplified solution for IT administrators to efficiently manage the following:
  • Dell PowerEdge Servers running on supported Windows operating systems.
  • Dell Integrated System for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI (also known as Azure Stack HCI or AS HCI) created using AX nodes from Dell Technologies.
  • Dell HCI Solutions for Microsoft Windows Server (also known as Windows Server HCI or WS HCI) created using Storage Spaces Direct Ready Nodes or combinations of AX nodes and Storage Spaces Direct Ready Nodes.
  • Microsoft Failover Clusters created with Dell PowerEdge servers running supported Windows Server operating system.
Health, hardware, iDRAC inventory Monitoring inventory data of servers and clusters Provides information about overall Health, Hardware inventory, and iDRAC inventory of nodes including component-level information of all supported Dell platforms.

For out-of-band management, you can directly launch the iDRAC console from Windows Admin Center.

Security Infrastructure lock for iDRAC 9 based system This feature protects your infrastructure (Azure Stack HCI, Windows Server HCI, Failover clusters, and PowerEdge servers) by enabling the infrastructure lock from unintended changes. This feature prevents the infrastructure from unintended changes to BIOS, iDRAC, Firmware, Drivers involving updates and configuration changes. This feature:
  • Provides infrastructure lock status for both servers and clusters.
  • Enables infrastructure lock for HCI and Failover clusters in cluster-aware manner.
  • Allows administrators to disable the infrastructure lock for HCI and Failover clusters for the intended configuration and update to the cluster, and enables it back automatically after the operation is finished.
Security Secure your infrastructure with "Secured-core" server This feature allows you to enable secured-core servers for your infrastructure (Failover clusters) running on Windows Server 2022.
  • In OpenManage Integration extension, this feature enables advanced hardware protection of the Secured-core server comprising of Hardware root-of-trust and Firmware protection at BIOS level in a cluster-aware manner.
  • In Windows Admin Center Security extension, this feature enables dependent Operating System security features in Failover clusters.
  • OpenManage Integration leverages Windows Admin Center security extension tool to display the secured core status of clusters and cluster nodes at the Operating System level.
  • Secured-core feature in OpenManage Integration extension, when combined with the OS capabilities enabled by Microsoft WAC security toll extension, your infrastructure is fully protected against current and future threats.
NOTE: Dell Technologies and Microsoft recommend to enable Secured Core for Windows Server 2022 that includes both the Dell Infrastructure and Microsoft Operating System security features to protect the infrastructure from external threats.
Update Update your server and cluster in Cluster-Aware updating manner
  • Online catalogs—Support for creating firmware baselines by using the available online catalogs when OMIMSWAC is connected to the Internet:
  • Offline catalog—Support for creating local firmware baselines by using Dell Repository Manager (DRM).
  • Compliance report—Generate update compliance report against Dell verified update catalogs and provide notifications when a new catalog version is available.
  • Server update—Supports PowerEdge server update against baseline – Firmware, BIOS, Drivers, and system management applications.
  • Cluster-Aware Update—Supports cluster update against validated baseline (Firmware, BIOS, and Drivers) for PowerEdge server-based Failover cluster, Dell HCI Solutions for Microsoft Windows Server, and Dell Integrated System for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI.
Microsoft "Update" extension tool Full stack update Full Stack Cluster-Aware Updating—Supports integrated cluster-aware update for Azure Stack HCI clusters that include both operating system and hardware updates (Firmware, BIOS, and Drivers).
All connection Cluster creation (Integrated Cluster Deploy and Update) Supports integrated Firmware, BIOS, and Drivers installation while creating Azure Stack HCI cluster. Also, performs HCI configuration profile check to keep hardware configuration of cluster nodes inline with Dell recommended hardware configuration.
HCP Compliance Validate and remediate HCI clusters using HCI Configuration Profile (HCP) policies Ability to validate and remediate an HCI cluster using HCP policies to ensure that the cluster shows better resiliency and performance, and remains compliant with Dell recommended configurations throughout the life cycle of the HCI cluster.
Cluster Recommendation Validate and remediate failover clusters using Server Configuration Profile (SCP) policies Ability to validate and remediate a failover cluster using SCP policies to ensure that the cluster shows better resiliency and performance, and remains compliant with Dell recommended configurations throughout the life cycle of the failover cluster.
Expand Storage View recommendations for expanding storage Ability to see recommendations that enables you to prepare nodes for adding more storage capacity to scale up the cluster storage to meet the growing needs of the business.
Onboard policies to Azure Arc Onboard Dell policies to Azure Supports onboarding of Dell HCP policies to Azure Arc, and then use these policies in Azure Arc to monitor your Azure Stack HCI clusters.
Expand Cluster Enhancements in preparing nodes for cluster expansion Provides recommendations to update to the latest Azure Stack HCI or Windows Server operating systems before preparing nodes for expansion.
Configure CPU core management Distributes CPU cores in an HCI (AS HCI and WS HCI) cluster or individual nodes.
Configure Expand cluster Supports preparing nodes before adding them to existing clusters.
Solution badge Certified clusters from Dell Technologies
  • Displays Azure Stack HCI Certified solution badge for Dell Azure Stack HCI clusters.
  • Displays Windows Server HCI Certified solution badge for Windows Server HCI clusters.
Translation Availability of the software and documents in different languages Availability of OMIMSWAC extension and documentation localized in English, French, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese languages.
