Dell NetWorker 19.9 Administration Guide

Using multihomed systems

When the NetWorker server, storage node, or client has more than one IP address, you can specify the exact TCP/IP network path that NetWorker uses during a backup.

A multihomed system is a system that has any of the following types of NICs:

  • More than one NIC, each having separate IP address.
  • A single NIC with multiple IP addresses.
  • Multiple NICs in a single bond that has multiple IP addresses.
NOTE:For synthetic backups:
  • Populate the server network interface of the client resource for the storage nodes.
  • If you have two groups of clients, the configuration should be such that each group of clients, for example, group-X, backs up to a specific storage node (or a set of specific storage nodes) that is different from the storage node (or a set of specific storage nodes) that the second group, for example, group-Y of clients can write to. In effect, the two groups must back up to different storage nodes.
NOTE:Dell Technologies recommends that you set the FQDN as the hostname, instead of short names.
