NIC configuration lost post BMR restart

If NIC configuration is lost on the recovered VM post successful BMR reboot, it could be because the original VM has a disabled Network Adapter still configured.

You can either manually reconfigure the Network Adapter with IP configuration on the recovered VM, or ensure that you do not have any stale or disabled Network Adapter on the original VM before performing any backups.

To remove the stale or disabled Network Adapter on the original VM:

  1. In the Device Manager, select View > Show hidden devices.
  2. Expand Network Adapters section, and check for any stale Network Adapters from the grayed-out list. Right-click the stale Network Adapter, and click Uninstall.
  3. Delete the following registry entries for the stale Network Adapters manually:
    • HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Adapters\{your_NIC_ID}
    • HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\{your_NIC_ID}
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network{your_NIC_ID}
  4. Restart the original VM before performing any fresh backups.
