SOFTlink

Determines whether softlinking is used (Yes) or not (No, default).

This parameter allows using native SnapVX system calls to create, activate, and link a snapshot from the source device to the target with one traditional TF/Clone SNAP VOLUME command.

NOTE:The TimeFinder/Clone Mainframe Snap Facility Product Guide describes traditional TF/Clone commands.

When you specify SOFTlink(YES), a snapshot is created on the source volume with the name that is specified in the NAME(snapshot_name) parameter.

You cannot have duplicate snapshot names on a single source device. To prevent duplicate snapshot names, append the snapshot name with the %date% and %time% variables to generate a unique snapshot name.

The SOFTlink parameter can be specified on the GLOBAL command. It has a matching site option, &SOFTLINK.

Syntax

SOFTlink({Yes|No})

Options

Yes
Creates a softlinked snapshot that can be linked and unlinked to multiple target devices.
No
(Default) Creates a hardlinked snapshot on the source and links it to a specific target device.
