Removing the optical drive

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer .
  2. Remove the:
    1. battery

    2. base cover

    3. docking board

  3. Unlock the optical drive bay press latch door and open it [1, 2].
  4. To disconnect the ExpressCard cables and the shroud cables:
    1. Lift the release tab and lift the cable out of the connector [3, 4].
    2. Remove the ExpressCard cable by lifting the cable out of the connector on the system board [5, 6].

  5. To remove the optical drive:
    1. Remove the screws that secure the optical drive to the system board [1].
    2. Slide the optical drive forward until the optical drive cable is visible [2].
    3. Lift the release tab [3] and lift the optical drive cable out of the connector on the system board [4].
    4. Slide the optical drive out of the optical drive slot on the computer [5].

  6. To remove the optical drive connector:
    1. Remove the screw that secures the optical drive connector [1].
    2. Pull the optical drive connector [2].
    3. Remove the optical drive connector from the computer.
