Removing the base cover

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
    NOTE:Ensure that your computer is in Service Mode. For more information, see Before working inside your computer.
    CAUTION:If your computer is unable to enter Service Mode, disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
  2. Remove the nanoSIM card.

About this task

NOTE:Before removing the base cover, ensure that there is no smart card installed in the smart card slot on your computer.

Steps

  1. Loosen the eight captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest assembly.
  2. Starting from the top edge, use a plastic scribe to pry the base cover and release it from all sides of the palm rest assembly.
  3. Lift the base cover off the palm-rest assembly.
    NOTE:Ensure that your computer is in Service Mode. If your computer is unable to enter Service Mode, disconnect the battery cable from the system board. To disconnect the battery cable, follow step 4 to step 5.
  4. Using the pull tab, disconnect the battery cable from the connector (BATTERY) on the system board.
  5. Press and hold the power button for five seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power.
