Removing the keyboard assembly
Prerequisites
- Follow the procedure in before working inside your computer.
- Remove the base cover.
- Remove the 3-cell battery or 4-cell battery.
- Remove the WLAN card.
- Remove the WWAN card (optional).
- Remove the M.2 2280 SSD or M.2 2230 SSD.
- Remove the fan.
- Remove the
system board.
NOTE: The system board can be removed with the heat sink attached in order to simplify the procedure and preserve the thermal bond between the system board and heat sink.
- Remove the power button or power button with optional fingerprint reader.
- Remove the smart card reader (optional).
- Remove the speakers.
- Remove the display assembly (laptop) or display assembly (2-in-1).

NOTE: The system board can be removed with the heat sink attached in order to simplify the procedure and preserve the thermal bond between the system board and heat sink.
The following images indicate the location of the keyboard assembly and provide a visual representation of the removal procedure.
Steps
- Lift the latch and disconnect the keyboard cable and keyboard backlit cable.
- Lift the mylar tape covering the screws.
- Remove the eighteen (M2x2) screws that secure the keyboard assembly to the palm-rest assembly.
- Carefully lift the keyboard assembly from the palm-rest assembly.
- Flip the keyboard assembly.
- Remove the two (M2x2) screws that secure the keyboard to the keyboard bracket.
- Remove the keyboard from the keyboard bracket.
