PowerScale OneFS Supportability and Compatibility Guide

File system protocols

The tables in this section list the file system protocols that are compatible with OneFS.

NFS

OneFS supports the Network File System (NFS) and Server Message Block (SMB) file system protocols. For information about how to configure NFS and SMB for OneFS, see the OneFS Administration Guide on the OneFS Info Hub for your OneFS version.

NOTE:Where provided, an exact OneFS version number indicates the minimum version of OneFS that is required.

NFS is a client and server application that lets users view and optionally store and update files on a network as if the files were saved in a local file directory. The NFS protocol is independent of the system, operating system, network architecture, and transport protocol.

Table 1. NFS CompatibilityThis table displays NFS Compatibility.
NFS OneFS Compatibility
8.1.x 8.2.x.x 9.0.0.x 9.1.0.x 9.2.x.x 9.3.0.x 9.4.0.x 9.5.0.x 9.6.x.x 9.7.0.x 9.8.x
NFS 3 N/A
NFS 4.0 N/A
NFS4.1/NFS4.2 N/A
NOTE:The NFSoRDMA feature requires that you have the Node Firmware Package (NFP) version 11.6.1 that is installed on your cluster, and the following patch for your version of OneFS:
  • OneFS 9.7.x.x - no patch required
  • OneFS 9.6.x.x - not supported
  • OneFS 9.5.0.x - no patch required
  • OneFS 9.4 - patch 9.4.0.5 or later
  • OneFS 9.3 - patch 9.3.0.8 or later
  • OneFS 9.2.1 - patch 9.2.1.15 or later

SMB

Windows systems use the SMB Internet protocol to share files, printers, and serial ports.

Table 2. SMB CompatibilityThis table displays SMB Compatibility.
SMB OneFS Compatibility
8.1.x 8.2.x.x 9.0.0.x 9.1.0.x 9.2.x.x 9.3.0.x 9.4.0.x 9.5.0.x 9.6.x.x 9.7.0.x 9.8.0.x
SMB 1 N/A
SMB 2 N/A
SMB 2.1 N/A
SMB 3.x N/A

S3

S3, or Simple Storage Service, is a block-based access protocol that is optimized for database storage. S3 is a web-based protocol using standard HTTPS and a RESTful API.

Table 3. S3 CompatibilityThis table displays S3 Compatibility.
S3 OneFS Compatibility
9.0.0.x 9.1.0.x 9.2.x.x 9.3.0.x 9.4.0.x 9.5.0.x 9.6.x.x 9.7.0.x 9.8.0.x
S3 N/A
NOTE:The S3 service may restart unexpectedly on OneFS versions 9.1.x, 9.2.x, and 9.4.x. For more information and workaround details, see PowerScale: Isilon: S3 process coring due to Memory leak.
