PowerScale OneFS 9.7.0.0 CloudPools Administration Guide

Use time stamps for cloud data archival and recall

Use time matching patterns (creation, modification, last access) when you archive data to and recall data from the cloud. This enables more efficient archival and recall operations, and therefore better performance.

When you create a file pool policy for archiving data to the cloud, several of the file-matching criteria involve time:

  • Created
  • Accessed
  • Modified

Therefore, you can specify file-matching criteria that specify when the files were created, when files were last accessed, or when they were last modified. Note that some files (program files, libraries, scripts and so forth) are not changed after they are created; if modified time is used to archive, these files might be pushed to cold storage. This can result in slow application load, for example, for often used files. Access time would be a better criterion for these types of files.
