Method 1: Create a new VM using the OVA installer (recommended)

To make installation easier, we recommend using the .ova install package (Isilon InsightIQ Installation File for VMware ESX, VMware ESXi, or VMware Workstation).

The OVA installer prepares a virtual machine (VM) with the correct version of CentOS for your version of InsightIQ, with many settings preconfigured.

The OVA-based installation package runs on any of the following virtual environments:

Method 2: Use an existing Linux VM

You can also run InsightIQ on an existing Linux virtual machine that meets the Physical machine requirements. Use either the .sh install package (Isilon InsightIQ Installation File for Linux Computers) or the .zip install package (Isilon InsightIQ Installation File for Other Supported VMware Products).

General recommendations

For best performance, follow these environment recommendations:

• Allocate at least 8 GB of RAM to the InsightIQ virtual machine. Allocating less than 8GB of RAM might significantly degrade the performance of InsightIQ.
• Allocate at least 70 GB of disk space.
• Ensure that the virtual machine disk performance allows for high read/write access.
• Install the InsightIQ virtual machine on a virtualization environment host that is running more processes than processors.
• Ensure that the virtual machine is connected to a network that can communicate with the monitored cluster.
