Isilon InsightIQ 4.1.4.x Installation Guide

PDF

Upgrade from InsightIQ 4.1.3 to 4.1.4 (In-place upgrade on .sh-based installations)

If you originally installed InsightIQ 4.1.3 using a script file (.sh) rather than from a virtual machine template (.OVA), InsightIQ can perform an upgrade in place. This procedure can help save steps reconfiguring InsightIQ, however it does require additional free space in the InsightIQ datastore.

NOTE To determine if you installed InsightIQ using a script file (.sh) or a virtual machine (.OVA) template, open a command line.

If you see a prompt that includes a "Welcome to InsightIQ" prompt and login, then InsightIQ was installed using the OVA template, and you must perform a standard upgrade.

During the upgrade process, InsightIQ is unable to collect data for monitored clusters. It is recommended that you upgrade InsightIQ at a time when cluster activity is minimal.

  1. Check to see if there is enough free space on the InsightIQ datastore to perform an in-place upgrade:

From the InsightIQ web application, select Settings > Datastore, and note the Datastore free disk space.

Select Settings > Monitored Clusters. Under the Data Size column, note the total size of the InsightIQ data sizes for each of the individual clusters.

If the Datastore free disk space is at least 20% greater than the total data sizes for each of the individual clusters, then you can perform an in-place upgrade.

If more room is needed, create more space on the InsightIQ datastore.

If you cannot make more room, back up the InsightIQ 4.1.3 datastore, perform a fresh install InsightIQ 4.1.4 from scratch, and then restore the datastore. To learn more, see Upgrade InsightIQ (standard upgrade).

  2. Recommended: Export the InsightIQ datastore to a location that is not on the InsightIQ host system. This database export can be used if a recovery is needed.
  3. Recommended: Confirm the new installation of InsightIQ with datastore import is working properly before shutting down the old version of InsightIQ.
  4. Upgrade to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.8 or CentOS 7.8.
NOTE Do not use the sudo yum update command by itself, as this command may update the operating system to a version that InsightIQ is not certified to work on.
    • For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x or CentOS 7.x:
      sudo yum upgrade --releasever=7.8

For CentOS 7.x: If needed, update the location of your vault repository to a server with CentOS 7.8.

    • For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x or CentOS 6.x : Perform a clean install of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.8 or CentOS 7.8.
  5. Download the installation script (install-insightiq-4.1.4.xx.sh) and transfer it to the InsightIQ server.
  6. Run the installation script:
    sudo sh install-insightiq-4.1.4.xx.sh
  7. If the installation script is successful, remove the old datastore:
    /tmp/delete_old_cluster.sh
NOTE This script performs the following commands:
    #!/bin/sh
    rm -rf '/var/cache/insightiq/pgsql/data.old'
    rm -rf '/var/cache/insightiq/data/PG_9.3_201306121'
    rm -rf '/datastore/postgres_data/PG_9.3_201306121'
  8. Recommended: Install InsightIQ 4.1.4.60 Patch 2021-04.
  9. Recommended: Review InsightIQ settings, LDAP, LDAP groups, local users, and user-based reports, and update them if necessary.
