InsightIQ Installation Requirements: Virtual Machine

When you install InsightIQ on a virtual machine (vm), you have two methods available: create a vm, or use an existing vm.

Hardware Requirements

You can install InsightIQ on a virtual machine that meets the following minimum hardware specifications:

  • x86_64 instruction set (Intel 64 or AMD 64)
  • Four processors
  • 16 GB RAM
  • 10 GB free disk space on the operating system partition
  • 512 GB free disk space for the datastore
  • System has an unmodified /etc/profile.

(Recommended) Method 1: Create a VM using the OVA installer

It is recommended that you use the .ova install package (InsightIQ Installation File for VMware ESX, VMware ESXi, or VMware Workstation).

The OVA installer prepares a virtual machine with the correct version of CentOS, with many settings preconfigured, and runs on any of the following virtual environments:

NOTE: If InsightIQ is hosted on VMware ESXi, it is recommended that you upgrade to ESXI version 7.0 Update 3. To learn more, see VMware ESXi 7.0 Update 3k Release Notes.
NOTE: RHEL is not supported with the .ova install package.

Method 2: Use an existing Linux VM

You can run InsightIQ on an existing Linux virtual machine that meets the following minimum hardware specifications:

  • x86_64 instruction set (Intel 64 or AMD 64)
  • Two processors
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 5 GB free disk space on the operating system partition
  • 70 GB free disk space for the datastore
  • System has an unmodified /etc/profile.

Use either the .sh install package (InsightIQ Installation File for Linux Computers) or the .zip install package (InsightIQ Installation File for Other Supported VMware Products).

NOTE: RHEL is not supported with the .zip install package on other VMware products.
