Limitations

This section describes the limitations in PowerProtect DP Series Appliance.

Table 1. Limitations in PowerProtect DP Series Appliance 2.7.6 PowerProtect DP Series Appliance limitations
Functional area Limitation
Security Customer imported CA-signed certificates are replaced by self-signed certificates during the appliance upgrade. You must add the CA-signed certificates again after upgrade. Dell EMC KB article 000021709 describes the procedures to replace the self-signed certificates with CA-signed certificates on all appliance sub-components.
Appliance FIPS Limitations when FIPS is enabled:
  • Search and Cloud Disaster Recovery do not support FIPS. These components are unavailable when FIPS is enabled. VM Proxy is available for backup outside PowerProtect DP Series Appliance.
  • No email alerts.
  • Once FIPS is enabled, you cannot revert or disable FIPS. Contact Dell EMC Support for assistance.
Appliance License In-product activation is not supported in the following cases:
  • On IPv6 enabled network
  • ACM is being used as DNS
Appliance network configuration After Network Configuration is successful, you cannot switch between IPv6 to IPv4. Contact Dell EMC Support for assistance.
Appliance upgrade If a component is inaccessible during the upgrade process, then the upgrade process fails for that component. Furthermore, as the component is inaccessible, the rollback and retry operations also fail. Contact Support to resolve the component inaccessibility and try again.
Cyber Recovery (CR)
  • Not supported on IPV6 network
  • When CR is deployed, you cannot configure the optional components such as Data Protection Central, Reporting & Analytics, Cloud Disaster Recovery, and Search on the appliance.
  • CR is not compliant with FIPS
  • CR does not support AD or LDAP integration
Protection Software Secure Connect Gateway (SCG) registration for Protection Software grid does not work in PowerProtect DP Series Appliance configured with IPv6.
Protection Storage The PowerProtect DP Series Appliance Protection Storage system with integrated Cloud tier, typically contains the following capacity usage metrics:
  • Active Tier Capacity
  • Cloud Tier Capacity
  • Total Capacity

The Capacity panel on the Avamar Administrator dashboard displays the Protection Storage Total Capacity statistics and not the Active Tier Capacity statistics. For more information about capacity statistics, see KB article 542695.

You can view the Protection Storage Active Tier Capacity usage at the following locations:

  • The ACM home page.
  • In Protection Storage UI, under Data Domain UI > Data Management.
  • The Protection Storage CLI.
Protection Storage Secure Connect Gateway (SCG) registration for Protection Storage does not work in PowerProtect DP Series Appliance configured with IPv6.
Reporting & Analytics Secure Connect Gateway (SCG) registration for Reporting & Analytics does not work in PowerProtect DP Series Appliance configured with IPv6.
Reporting & Analytics and ACM The Heap based buffer overflow vulnerability (CVE-2021-3156) in SUSE SLES12 is noted for Reporting & Analytics and ACM OS.
