Removing the 3.5-inch hard drive

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the left-side cover.
  3. Remove the front cover.

Steps

  1. Disconnect the data and power cable from the connectors on the 3.5-inch hard drive.
  2. Remove the two (#6-32) screws that secure the 3.5-inch hard-drive assembly to the hard-drive and optical-drive bracket.
  3. Lift and slide the 3.5-inch hard-drive assembly away from the hard-drive and optical-drive bracket.
  4. Turn over and place the 3.5-inch hard-drive assembly on a flat surface.
  5. Remove the two (#6-32) screws that secure the 3.5-inch hard drive to the hard-drive cage.
  6. Slide and remove the 3.5-inch hard drive from the hard-drive cage.
