Removing the hard-drive and optical-drive cage

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the left-side cover.
  3. Remove the front cover.
  4. Remove the 3.5-inch hard drive or 2.5-inch hard drive.

Removing the HDD and ODD cage

Steps

  1. Remove the (#6-32) screw that secures the hard-drive and optical-drive bracket to the chassis.
  2. Lift and slide the hard-drive and optical-drive bracket away from the chassis.
    NOTE:The data and power cables are still connected to the optical drive. Carefully slide out the hard-drive and optical-drive bracket.
    NOTE:Skip this step if the computer is not shipped with an optical drive.
  3. Hold onto the hard-drive and optical-drive bracket and turn it over.
  4. Unroute the data and power cables through the routing guides on the hard-drive and optical-drive bracket.
  5. Disconnect the data and power cables from the connectors on the optical drive.
  6. Lift the hard-drive and optical-drive bracket away from the chassis.
