Removing the system board
CAUTION:The information in this section is intended for authorized service technicians only.
Prerequisites
- Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
- Remove the SD card.
- Remove the base cover.
- Remove the 3-cell battery or 4-cell battery (whichever applicable).
- Remove the M.2 2230 solid-state drive or M.2 2280 solid-state drive (whichever applicable).
- Remove the memory modules.
- Remove the wireless card.
- Remove the fan.
- Remove the UMA heat sink or discrete heat sink (whichever applicable).
- Remove the display assembly.

Steps
- Remove the two (M2.5x5) screws from the right hinge.
- Pry open the right-display hinge at an angle of 90 degrees.
- Disconnect the following cables from the system board:
- I/O board Flexible Flat cable
- Speaker cable
- Touchpad Flexible Flat cable
- Keyboard backlight Flexible Printed cable (for systems with backlit keyboard)
- Keyboard Flexible Printed cable
- Power adapter port cable
- eDP cable
- Remove the four (M2x3.5) screws that secure the system board to the palm-rest assembly.
- Remove the single (M2x2) screw that secures the system board to the palm-rest assembly.
- NOTE:For systems shipped with a USB Type-C port, do not remove the type-C bracket that is secured to the system board.
- Carefully lift the system board away from the chassis.
