Removing the system board

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the base cover.
  3. Remove the M.2 2230 solid-state drive or M.2 2280 solid-state drive from M.2 slot whichever applicable.
  4. Remove the battery.
  5. Remove the display assembly.
  6. Remove the heat sink.

Removing the system board

Steps

  1. Lift the latch and disconnect the keyboard-backlight cable from the system board.
  2. Disconnect the speaker cable from the system board.
  3. Lift the latch and disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board.
  4. Lift the latch and disconnect the touchpad cable from the system board.
  5. Remove the screw (M2x3) that secures the WLAN-card bracket to the system board.
  6. Remove the wireless-card bracket from the system board.
  7. Disconnect the wireless antennas from the wireless card.
    NOTE: The wireless card is soldered to the system board and cannot be removed from the system board.
  8. Remove the screw (M2x2) that secures that system board to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
  9. Remove the three (M2x4) screws that secure that system board to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
  10. Disconnect the I/O-board cable from the system board.
  11. Lift the system board off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
