Dell PowerProtect DD Management Center (DDMC) 7.9 Installation and Administration Guide

Redeploy Smart Scale services

Uninstall Smart Scale services without removing metadata and deploy again.

Prerequisites

Redeploying Smart Scale services for the data center makes backup functionality unavailable. Pause jobs in the backup software before redeploying.

Before redeploying, make a list of the port groups and IP addresses that are configured on each Ethernet interface in the DD Namespace VM (DDNVM).

After redeployment, use this information to reconfigure (from the vCenter) each Ethernet interface with the appropriate port groups. Also verify associated IP addresses for each Ethernet interface. Wait 15 minutes for system pools to be operable. Providing incorrect port groups may cause unexpected behaviors (for example, an Ethernet interface may not work).

Steps

  1. In the left side navigation panel, select Infrastructure > Data Centers.
  2. To expand the card view, click the arrow in the bottom-right corner of a data center that is running Smart Scale services.
  3. Click Actions, and select Redeploy Services > Redeploy Services.
  4. Enter a Username and Password, and click Redeploy Services.
User must have vCenter deployment privileges.

Results

Redeploying services incorporates two steps: uninstalling services and deploying services. Two jobs appear on the Jobs page. When the uninstall job finishes, the deploy job starts. The data center summary page shows "Uninstalling" first, followed by "Deploying," and then "Running" (if deployment is successful).

Deployment can take up to 30 minutes depending on network bandwidth, vCenter load, and other network configuration factors. Details can be viewed from Health > Jobs.

If deployment fails, options exist to Retry, Cancel Deployment, or Edit deployed Smart Scale services.

NOTE Clicking Retry only prompts for vCenter credentials and is not an opportunity to update deployment configurations. Click Cancel to restart the deployment wizard and make configuration changes.
Click Edit deployed Smart Scale services to update the deployment configurations.

Next steps

After successful redeployment, access the vCenter, and reconnect the NICs on the DDNVM to the appropriate port groups. Wait 15 minutes before continuing data path operations.
