Dell PowerProtect DD Management Center (DDMC) 7.9 Installation and Administration Guide

Create, edit, and delete system pools

Before Smart Scale services are deployed on a data center, Summary and Systems are the only available views in the expanded card of the data center. After Smart Scale services are deployed, System Pools is also available in the expanded card.

Create a system pool

Prerequisites

Before creating a system pool:

  • Smart Scale services must be deployed
  • DD systems must be available to add to the pool
  • The appliance must be model DD6900, DD9400, or DD9900
  • The DDOS version must be 7.8 or later
  • The DD system must not be in another data center or system pool
  • DD Boost must be enabled
Steps
  1. In the left side navigation panel, select Infrastructure > Data Centers.
  2. Click the arrow in the bottom-right corner of a data center card to expand the Summary view.
  3. Click System Pools tab and then Create.
  4. In the Create System Pool wizard, read through the readiness guidelines, and click Next.
Skip "Getting Started" can be selected.
  5. Define the system pool by typing a name and a description (optional). Select the system pool capabilities that you require. Click Next.
After you click Next, if there are no available systems that satisfy the selected capabilities, a warning message appears.
  6. Select systems from the list of available systems to add to the system pool, and click Add.
    NOTE
    • To add systems to the system pool, users must have admin privileges on the systems.
    • For mobile storage unit placement, all selected systems must belong to at least one common network group. To view systems that are in the same network groups, click the Network Group filter icon.
These systems should now appear in the Pool Systems table. Click Next.
  7. In the Network Group Summary view:
    • To review a list of network groups, click Network Listing.
    • To configure a pool access IP address, click Configure Pool Access.
If no pool access IP address is assigned, "Pool Readiness Status" is "Not Ready." If the pool access IP address is already configured, you can edit it or unassign it.
  8. In the Configure Pool Access IP view, select a system, and then click Assign Pool Access IP.
You can view network groups from this dialog.
  9. In the Assign Pool Access IP dialog, enter the System Pool Access IP, Interface, and MTU information, and then click Save.
An error message displays if the Pool Access IP is already assigned to another network group.
  10. Review the Summary and click Create.
