Dell PowerProtect DD Management Center (DDMC) 7.9 Installation and Administration Guide

Backing up DDMC configuration

Make a backup of the DDMC configuration in case you restore it later.

Prerequisites

It is recommended that the DDMC and the PowerProtect DD system that stores the DDMC backup configuration are in the same site. For example, both of them are on premises or both are in the cloud.

A passphrase must be set up for a DDMC backup to be configured. The passphrase is used for encrypting the DDMC backup file. When the DDMC backup configuration is restored on another DDMC, the same passphrase must be set on the new DDMC so the file can be decrypted.

About this task

Make a backup file of the DDMC and save it in a safe location in case you must restore the backup to a new DDMC.

DDMC backups include certificates, temporary files, configurations, and database information.

DDMC backups are created:

  • Whenever configuration changes are made
  • Every 15 minutes

If there is a previous DDMC backup file available, the latest backup file overwrites it.

Steps

  1. Select Settings > Disaster Recovery.
  2. In the Disaster Recovery dialog, select a DD System and an NFS Export Path to store the DDMC files. Click Apply.
NOTE If you select an existing NFS export path that does not have permissions set for the DDMC, the DDMC configuration backup fails. This failure triggers an alert on the Health > Alerts page.
  3. If there are no NFS export paths to select from or you want a different NFS export path, click View Prerequisites to review the steps to create one. To copy and paste the steps to another window where you can see them, click Copy to Clipboard. The steps are also described below.
  4. Select Infrastructure > Systems > View DD System Manager.
  5. In the DDSM, select Protocols > NFS.
  6. In the Exports tab, click Create.
  7. In the Create NFS Exports dialog, enter the Export Name and Directory Path.
  8. Under Clients, click + to create an NFS client.
  9. In the Add Clients dialog, in the Clients text box, enter the IP address of the DDMC that you want to back up.
  10. Ensure that the check box for Map root user to anonymous UID/GID (root_squash) is cleared and click OK.
Create NFS Exports Status dialog indicates that the NFS export configuration is completed. Click Close.
  11. If the passphrase is not already configured, the Set Passphrase dialog appears. Enter the passphrase and click Save and Continue.
  12. In the Disaster Recovery dialog, select the DD system and the NFS export that you created in the previous steps. Then click Apply.

Results

The Backups tab displays the result of the DDMC configuration backup. The DDMC backup file is stored on the PowerProtect DD system that you designated in the previous steps.

Next steps

If required, from the Disaster Recovery dialog, you can delete the backup configuration and create another backup configuration.
